To create a healthy work environment, you must ensure that your employees feel respected and well compensated.

A healthy work environment makes it more likely that employees will succeed in achieving and maintaining their personal health improvement goals and not adopt unhealthy behaviors. Leaders at all levels have a responsibility to shape the workplace culture.

To get started, make sure all employees are respected and treated fairly. You can accomplish this by encouraging open communication between staff and management. Your employees mustn't feel stagnant.

Therefore, providing them with career growth and development opportunities is important. Recognize and reward employees for their hard work and accomplishments.

It's important to understand that your employees have families and lives outside of work, so offering flexible work schedules, policies, and a healthy work-life balance is important. Another aspect of building a healthy workplace culture is encouraging team-building activities and fostering an open and inclusive environment.

The Five Dimensions of a Healthy Workplace Culture include the following:

  • Shared wellness values. Establishing health and well-being as a top priority within the university's organizational priorities.

  • Wellness norms. Cultural standards for expected and accepted behavior (the way we do things around here). What health and well-being behaviors should become strong norms?

  • Cultural touch points. Informal and formal policies and practices that influence behaviors on a day-to-day basis. These policies and practices include (but are not limited to) training, rewards, modeling, traditions, and communication.

  • Peer support. Improving the quantity and quality of mutual assistance for achieving healthy behavior goals among coworkers, family, friends, and other community members.

  • Social climate. Using wellness programming increases the sense of community, shared vision, and positive outlook within a setting. Improving social cohesiveness, morale, engagement, and teamwork
