To become a certified veterinary technician, you must fulfill the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) requirements. This includes completing a veterinary technician program, passing an exam, and obtaining a state license.
To get started as a veterinary assistant, you must complete a program accredited by the AVMA's Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (CVTEA), pass the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE), and obtain a state license.
The VTNE is the exam administered by the American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB) to certify veterinary technicians. The exam consists of 180 multiple-choice questions covering animal nutrition, pharmacology, medical nursing, surgical nursing, and laboratory procedures.
