Is vet school harder than med school?

By Zippia Team - Oct. 25, 2022

Yes, vet school is harder than med school. Veterinary school and medical school both require extensive knowledge of math and science. Many of the prerequisites for these schools are similar because they require extensive biology and chemistry knowledge.

Although aspiring medical students have to take the MCAT before applying to medical school, many may agree that veterinary school is harder than medical school. This is not due to the nature of the work. Both veterinary school and medical school are very demanding.

What makes veterinary school more difficult is that there are fewer schools to attend. With fewer schools available, students struggle with gaining acceptance into a program, even if their grades are exemplary. Each school only has a certain number of students they can accept each year.

While medical school is difficult, there are more of them available. More schools mean more chances for students to be accepted. Some states have more than one medical school option available. However, some states don't have a single veterinary school option.
