Teacher dress code

By Kate Swindlehurst - Jun. 12, 2023

There is no set dress code for teachers, as it varies by district. Typically, most teachers wear something that is similar to business casual. There are some standards that are commonly found in dress codes for teachers. Often, teachers need to be sure to dress in a way that is both functional and professional.

Teachers do a lot of moving around with their students. They are also on their feet for the majority of the day. Because of these things, they need to make sure that what they wear is professional but is also comfortable enough for them to be able to do what they need to do. Comfortable shoes are crucial, and clothing that isn't too stiff is also important.

Most teachers are not allowed to wear jeans while they work. There may be exceptions for casual Fridays, where teachers can wear jeans and T-shirts. Often, teachers use those Fridays to wear shirts that are related to teaching or the specific school they work at, such as Mascot shirts.
