Plastic surgeon, surgical nurse, and anesthesiologist are careers under the umbrella of plastic or cosmetic surgery. There are also a number of non-medical careers involved in running a plastic surgery practice.

• Plastic Surgon

  Plastic surgeons specialize in cosmetic procedures that can relate to any area of the body. These surgeons often work in hospitals or run their own medical practice. The field of plastic surgery is very specialized, with some surgeons working only on facial procedures or hand-related surgeries.

• Surgical Nurse

  Both surgical nurses and anesthesiologists are often needed for a plastic surgery procedure to take place. These specialists assist in preparing patients and operating theaters for surgery. Surgical nurses are responsible for preparing all materials that the surgeon will need for the procedure.

  Often surgical nurses will also perform some basic surgical tasks related to the operation.

• Anesthesiologist

  Anesthesiologists are a very important part of the surgical team. They administer drugs to keep patients comfortable before, during, and after their procedures.

  Private plastic surgery operations require professionals that are charged with everything that happens outside of the operating room. Office managers, billing specialists, and receptionists all take care of the running of the practice.

  While all professionals involved with the medical procedures being undertaken at a clinic or hospital are required to have extensive education, training, certification, and licensure to practice medicine in their given state, most office-related occupations require only a specialty certification related to their role as part of the surgeon's support team.
