What are organizational ethics?

Organizational ethics are the principles and values that guide businesses toward productivity while avoiding harmful business behaviors. It is essentially a code of proper conduct for those who interact with others when conducting business.

The ethics with which a company operates typically begins with its leadership. Just as a lack of ethics can damage a person's reputation, so can the image or reputation of a company suffer. Leaders need to establish core ethical behaviors and conduct themselves per those standards.

Several of the most important work ethics and behaviors include honesty and integrity. Above all other qualities, these determine the quality of an employee at any level.

Often it is the job of HR representatives to determine if candidates possess these intangible qualities. Additionally, ethical qualities such as discipline, responsibility, and accountability rank among the most sought-after employee qualities.
