What are the pros and cons of being a woman in the military?

Pros:

• Access to Education. The military helps pay for education for those who are enlisted or were enlisted. This is a great way for people who want to attend college, but do not have the funds to do so.

• Competitive Benefits. While working in the military, you receive a housing stipend as well as medical insurance. This can be great, especially if you do not have a way to receive these things without the military.

• Positive Role Model for Women. As a woman in the military, you are a representation of women everywhere. You can be a great role model for people who want to follow in your footsteps and be like you.

Cons:

• Misogyny. The military is a male-dominated industry, so there are bound to be many instances of misogyny. This can be frustrating as a woman in the military, and you may spend lots of time explaining why something is or isn't okay to say or do.

• Increased Risk of Abuse. Unfortunately, one risk for women in the military is an increased risk of abuse, both by people in their unit or by potential enemies if there were any captures that occurred. This can be a scary thing for women, and can easily be a con.
