What are the pros and cons of being a zoologist?

Pros:

• Working with Animals. If you have a passion for working with animals, becoming a zoologist is a great way to do this. You can work with specific, exotic animals which you otherwise would never have an opportunity to interact with in this way.

• Job Satisfaction. Zoologists report a much higher-than-average rate for job satisfaction. This is probably due to the nature of the position. People who go into zoology are often extremely passionate about it, and so they are happy when they reach their goals.

Cons:

• Extensive Education Requirements. Most zoologists hold doctorate degrees in a related field. This is in addition to a bachelor's degree and a master's degree. To complete these, they need to have completed extensive research in a specific area.

• Difficult Job Market. One frustrating part about trying to become a zoologist is that there is not a huge turnover, and jobs can be difficult to secure. This means that you can go through all the education and work to be a zoologist and then find yourself having a hard time securing a position.
