What degree do you need to be a forensic anthropologist?

By Zippia Team - Jul. 31, 2023

You need a Ph.D. in physical anthropology to be a forensic anthropologist. Before obtaining this degree, you need to first get a bachelor's degree in anthropology and then a master's degree in anthropology.

In addition, during your education, you must seek out opportunities to gain experience by assisting an established forensic anthropologist with casework.

After you obtain a Ph.D., there is still additional training that still needs to be completed; however, this is not a requirement. The American Board of Forensic Anthropology recognizes professional forensic anthropologists as diplomats after they have acquired the necessary education and the candidate successfully completes written and practical exams.
