This question is about what a nurse does.

What degree do you need to be a NICU nurse?

By Zippia Team - Sep. 7, 2022

The degree required to become a NICU nurse is an associate's or bachelor's degree and state certification.

After securing either an ADN or BSN, candidates must then take their NCLEX-RN exams. The passing of these exams coupled with a nursing degree allows the candidate to gain experience in both the neonatal and ICU areas within a hospital.

It is typically after some experience in each of these areas that nurses are available to be placed in their first NICU position.
