You need a Ph.D. in toxicology to be a toxicologist. PhDs in physiology, cell biology, biochemistry, or another similar biological science are also acceptable.

Before obtaining your Ph.D., you must first get a bachelor's degree in toxicology, cell biology, pharmacology, or other related disciplines.

Then you need to get your master's degree in toxicology. Most toxicologists have PhDs; however, there are some toxicology positions that are available to candidates who only have a master's degree in toxicology.

Another avenue of attaining a job as a toxicologist is to attend medical or veterinary school.

You should also seek to gain an internship during your schooling or immediately after. Internship programs that can give you clinical toxicology research experience are recommended.
