What degree do you need to be an oncologist?
You need a bachelor's degree related to medicine or science, and a four-year medical degree to be an oncologist. You will also have to complete a residency program at a hospital or clinic for a number of years.
Most oncologists do not begin training for oncology until after medical school, due to the fact that it is a subspecialty of internal medicine.
Your residency will either be in internal medicine or general surgery. You must then follow this with a fellowship in a specific oncology subfield.
