This question is about what a chemical engineer does.

What do entry-level chemical engineers do?

By Kate Swindlehurst - Jun. 12, 2023

Entry-level chemical engineers work closely with their team leads, take ownership over parts of a project, and submit estimated production costs. Most chemical engineers have completed at least a bachelor's degree program as well as some internships before beginning work in their field. This field requires a highly-specific skills and knowledge base that employers will expect even entry-level chemical engineers to have prior to starting a job.

Entry-level chemical engineers work under the direction of a team lead who is typically a senior chemicalengineer. The senior engineer assigns portions of an overall project to the entry-level engineer. From there, entry-level chemical engineers complete the tasks assigned to them and report the status of their portions of the project to the senior chemicalengineer.

A large part of an entry-level chemical engineer's job is to complete the more menial tasks, such as performing and submitting estimations for production costs. Chemical engineers just beginning their career are often called on to help with tasks that take some of the pressure off the senior engineers, and with time begin to take ownership over more of an overall project.
