This question is about what a forensic pathologist does.

What does a forensic pathologist do on a daily basis?

By Kate Swindlehurst - Oct. 12, 2023

On a daily basis, a forensic pathologist performs autopsies or post-mortem examinations to determine a person's cause and manner of death.

Forensic pathologists often work within criminal investigations where the knowledge of forensic pathology is vital. They analyze tissue samples, blood, and other bodily fluids, oftentimes using specialized laboratory equipment. The detailed findings from these examinations are then documented in autopsy reports.

Forensic pathologists also often have to work closely with law enforcement officials. They might be required to provide expert testimony in court about their findings and the scientific methods they used. This requires excellent communication skills as they need to be able to explain complex medical information in a way that is clear and understandable to non-medical professionals.

In addition, they might also be involved in teaching, research or administrative duties depending on their specific roles. This can include providing training for medical students or other professionals, conducting research studies to improve methods used in forensic pathology, and managing laboratory operations.
