This question is about what a geneticist does.

What does a geneticist study?

By Zippia Team - Nov. 16, 2022

Geneticists study genes and heredity. They study how certain traits or qualities can be passed down from parents to offspring. Genes are segments of DNA that contain instructions on how to build one or more molecules for a function of the body to work.

Most geneticists work in scientific fields and are extremely specialized. They often work with biologists, chemists, and other geneticists. Geneticists use equipment such as microscopes or DNA scanners for gene manipulation and gene therapy. They also spend time analyzing data and recording conclusions.

Geneticists either go into research or become medical doctors. For both of these paths, extensive schooling is required. Researchers hold a doctorate in a related field and work in research and development. Medical doctors hold a medical degree and work with patients, but can also perform research as well.
