This question is about what a dispatcher does.

What does an entry-level dispatcher do?

By Kate Swindlehurst - Jun. 13, 2023

Entry-level dispatchers maintain proper logs of conversations, direct both emergency and non-emergency calls, and work under management. Typically, there are no specific requirements to begin working as an entry-level dispatcher, but any related experience can be extremely beneficial to being hired.

Entry-level dispatchers typically work under management when they first begin working. They may even direct calls while working physically with someone from management. This is done until the dispatcher reaches a higher level of comfort and can begin working independently.

Entry-level dispatchers, once training is completed, can begin directing both emergency and non-emergency calls. Training should prepare them for most of what could occur. With each completed call, dispatchers must also maintain proper logs of these conversations. Entry-level dispatchers typically submit these for review and approval.
