What does an entry-level engineer do?

By Zippia Team - Jan. 22, 2022

An entry-level engineer works under a supervisor and has lower levels of responsibility as they gain experience. Projects will start at a basic level related to an engineer's specific industry. The supervisor is there to manage and mentor the employee.

At the entry-level, an engineer designs, tests, and constructs products as part of a team, but the actual duties vary based on industry. As a mechanical engineer, you may be given many CAD designs and drawings, working on getting specifications correct. In software engineering, you might start in virtual validation software.

For example, it is also common to give entry-level employees a tour of different departments, visiting an assembly line at the manufacturing plant. No matter which field of engineering, the entry-level job should expose you to the life cycle of product development, from concept to design to prototype.
