A merchandiser is a retail inventory specialist. Merchandisers are behind almost every inventory decision in every local store or retail chain. They make sure that the customer's shopping experience is the best it can be.
Merchandisers are responsible for everything that happens to a product, from when it is delivered to the store to when a shopper picks it up off the shelf.
Depending on the retailer, that may include: performing stockouts, organizing the shelf, setting up displays, and setting up price and promotional signs. Most of a merchandiser's time is spent moving products between a store's warehouse and their displays on the sales floor.
If a merchandiser works within a retail store, they will typically manage most of the product displays in the store. When a merchandiser is not constructing product displays, they log shipping and warehouse data to report certain products to other inventory specialists.
Overall being a merchandiser requires a diverse set of job duties that ensure inventory is both available and attractively displayed for customer purchase.
