This question is about soldier certifications.
After basic training is completed soldiers then begin out-processing procedures. This means that they gather all of their personal items from their bunks in the barracks and check out of their specific unit. After check-out is complete soldiers then must attend Advanced Individual Training (AIT) school.
Depending on each specific soldier's MOS (specialty), their AIT school might be on the same military base where they completed basic training or could be located at a different military installation. Soldiers are not given the opportunity to go home after basic training as most AIT school check-ins are required the day after basic training graduation.
AIT school normally takes between four to 52 weeks to complete depending on the specific soldier's MOS. There are two phases of AIT soldiers must complete before they can then go on to join their unit, these include:
Phase IV
AIT schools Phase IV is usually three weeks long. It focuses on training soldiers in the values of the Army, and also starts a focus on their specific MOS skills. This phase allows soldiers to have some privileges, such as weekend liberty days, and phone time.
Phase V
Phase V of AIT school can last anywhere from several weeks to multiple months. This depends on the specific MOS of the soldier. Here they will receive the bulk of their training concerning their MOS and should be fully ready soldiers that can then be directed to their appropriate unit.
