By Zippia Team - Nov. 10, 2021

A Class A truck driver license allows you to operate equipment of all sizes and weights. You must have this if you are deciding to drive a semi-truck or a combination of truck and trailer. Class A also allows you to drive flatbeds, livestock, and tank vehicles.

Class A CDL license allows you to drive:

  • Semi trucks

  • Flatbeds

  • Tanker vehicles

  • Truck and trailer combinations

  • Most Class B and Class C vehicles

A Class A CDL license is the most common license truck drivers receive. This type of CDL license is a bit harder to get but is the highest-paid one in the business. It takes, for instance, seven weeks to earn a CDL A license compared to the four to six weeks it takes to earn a CDL B.
