This question is about teacher certifications.
A Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) is a certification in a specific career field that proves that an individual has skills in one of six specified areas based on education, training, and experience. The DAWIA certification is administered by the Department of Defense (DoD).
The career fields designated by the DoD are sorted into three certification levels. Level 1 is basic or entry-level, level 2 is intermediate or journeyman, and level 3 is advanced or senior level. Training and curriculum education must be completed for each level of certification. The certification doesn't cost anything and doesn't require renewal.
The certification requirements for each field and certification level can be found by searching the Certification Core Development Guides, which are available within the DUA iCatalog. Working from level 1 to level three encompasses a range of one to seven years.
The DAWIA career fields are:
Business Financial Management/Cost Estimating
Contracting
Engineering
Life Cycle Logistics
Program Management
Test and Evaluation
DAWIA certification is only available to individuals who are part of the Department of Defense, whether they are employed or non-civilian. Each branch of the military has specific requirements and methods of application. These can be found on the respective military branch sites.
