What is a multi-drop driver?

By Zippia Team - Dec. 17, 2021

A multi-drop driver means that the driver is delivering to more than two locations. A multi-drop driver, on average, stops at about 20 to 30 locations a day.

As you can imagine, the logistics of this all can be intense. For example, a company might receive an order from customers that must be delivered within 24 hours. As many different orders come in from varying locations and are destined for multiple other locations, these companies are presented with a logistical challenge.

Each day a multi-drop driver will receive a manifest for the route that day; it will probably be in the form of a hand-held scanning device. All parcels scheduled for the route are scanned into your vehicle (by the multi-drop driver) and again when they arrive at each drop throughout the day.

Every parcel entering the vehicle is accounted for. Plus, if the wrong parcels are being delivered by accident, the handheld device will alert the driver. Ultimately each customer receives exactly what they were expecting and not someone else's order by mistake.
