What is a teacher preparation program?

By Zippia Team - Dec. 9, 2022

A teacher preparation program is a program that prepares teachers for their profession. These programs vary from state to state. However, all aim to get teachers ready to teach in public schools.

Teacher preparation programs are state-approved courses of study in which the successful completion of the program shows that an enrolled teacher has met all state educational requirements and training requirements to be recommended for initial certification.

Once a teacher has passed one of these programs, they are qualified and authorized to work legally in the teaching field.

Candidates can take different types of coursework in teacher preparation programs, depending on what grade level and subjects they want to teach.

Completing a state's teacher preparation program also grants the teacher the ability to teach in that state's elementary and secondary schools.
