By Zippia Team - Jan. 8, 2023

An interventionist teacher is an instructor that is called upon for the needs of a particular student when regular classroom-style teaching does not produce the right educational results.

Interventionist teachers work with classroom teachers to design and implement different strategies for instructing when a student is having difficulty with the standard method of teaching in the classroom.

Interventionist teachers work to support and help educate children with special educational, social, and behavioral needs. In addition to working with traditional classroom teachers, interventionist teachers also work with a child's parents to help determine and optimize their academic needs.

Interventionist teachers can also be referred to as:

  • Intervention specialists

  • Special education teachers

  • Special education aides

Most intervention teachers work focuses on students that have learning disabilities, physical disabilities that hinder specific student's academic performances in some way, those that are socially deficient in some way, or students experiencing behavioral problems.
