What is an objective investigator?
An objective investigator remains neutral and without bias during an investigation. These individuals have no investment in the outcome of their investigative work and objectively state their findings.
Private companies often hire objective investigators to investigate several in-house issues. In this role, you may investigate worker compensation claims by observing the claimant, or you may be asked to look into issues related to internal theft.
The primary difference between a criminal investigator and an "objective" investigator is the necessary absence of a guilty party. You may investigate claims of internal theft and find that there is none. Likewise, suspected worker compensation fraud may not be found. There is no pressure for an objective investigator to side with an employer.
All investigators are presumed to be objective regardless of their position. Criminal investigators pursue evidence of a crime that has clearly been committed, whereas objective investigators often find no wrongdoing.
