What is Scrooge's job?

Scrooge's job is that of a moneylender. In Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol, Ebenezer Scrooge and his occupation play a critical role in the storyline. He owns the firm, Scrooge and Marley. This firm deals with money lending, giving people money and then charging them interest.

Scrooge worked at what would be a modern-day business that distributes payday loans. He offered to allow people to borrow money from him but then charged large sums of interest on the money he offered. It was a good way to earn money, and he was fairly successful if his lifestyle in Dickens's novel was any indication.
