The hierarchy of an architecture firm starts with interns and entry-level positions, then architects and designers, then managers and then principals and partners. Within these categories, there are often smaller hierarchies that are often decided through experience and seniority.

Above architects, you have managers. This includes project managers, department heads, and senior managers. At this level, they still work on architecture, but also oversee day-to-day operations.
The highest level in the architecture firm hierarchy is that of principals and partners. Depending on the company, they may use either term or both. These positions oversee many parts of daily operations, as well as being over the company as a whole.
