What is the hiring process at Bank of America?

By Zippia Team - Sep. 14, 2022

The hiring process at Bank of America varies by position and usually takes several weeks from start to finish due to the drug testing and background checks that are required.

There are 3 basic steps to the hiring process at Bank of America:

  1. Application: Prospective employees are encouraged to explore the Bank of America careers webpage and get information on Bank of America's business, culture, and available jobs.

Once an opportunity of interest has been identified, prospects are encouraged to apply via the Bank of America career page. You will be taken to an application portal where you will be able to upload your resume or import your information from LinkedIn. You will also be asked about your employment history and to answer questions specific to the job that you are applying for.

You will be asked to create an account (or log in if you already have one) before starting the application process. This will allow you to monitor the status of your application or save an in-progress application if you can submit it all in one sitting.

Once your application has been submitted, you will receive a confirmation email and if you are selected for an interview, you will be contacted by a Talent Acquisition representative. If you are not selected to continue on in the hiring process, you are encouraged to continue applying or other positions that fit your skills and/or experience.

There may be pre-screening text messages or assessments that will be sent to you or you will be contacted by a member of the internal recruitment team regarding the next steps.

Please note that a full COVID-19 vaccination may be a condition of employment depending on the role and location of the job. If you have concerns, please discuss this with a member of the internal recruitment team.

  2. Interview: After you submit your application, it will be reviewed by a member of the Talent Acquisition team. If your skills seem to be a match for the role, you will be contacted to set up a phone interview.

During the phone interview, you will discuss the role in greater detail and get to ask any questions you have regarding the role and/or the company. If you are still interested and the Talent Acquisition team feels that you are a good fit, you will move on to the next interview.

You may be asked to participate in competency-based interviews and the number of interviews may vary based on the role, country, or line of business. You can expect interviews to be a mix of phone calls, in-person conversations, and conference or video calls.

Interviewers will hone in on appropriate competencies and ask applicable questions for the role. Sample questions include:

    • "As you know, businesses, the financial market, and technology are changing faster than ever. Tell us how you keep up with the changes in technology, the market, or your field. And give us an example of something new you recently learned."

    • "Teams are often made up of people with perspectives and ideas that are different from your own. Tell us about a time when you worked on such a team? How did the differing perspectives lead to team success?"

  3. Offer and Onboarding: If you are selected for the role, a member of the internal recruitment team will contact you to review the offer letter details, benefits, and more information on your new career at Bank of America. If you are not selected, you will receive communication from a member of the Bank of America team.

Once you have accepted an offer, you will be asked to complete forms and start the pre-onboarding process. You will also be required to submit for a background check. The internal recruitment team member will provide you with more detailed information on how to complete these steps.

Bank of America outlines its tips for successfully going through the hiring process:
