What is the hiring process at Booknook?

The application process is different depending on whether you're applying for a virtual tutor position or to work out of the company offices. If you're applying for an online tutor position you are asked additional questions to determine your eligibility.

The application questions are set up to allow Booknook to get to know you, match your specific qualifications against the qualifications for the role, and allow them to understand the Tutor community better.

The online application for virtual tutors asks the following questions:

• Please tell us (in a few sentences) about your teaching experience overall, including any online teaching experience (If this experience is not listed on the resume you uploaded, please include the length of time and age of students that you taught/tutored).

• What inspires you to want to tutor with BookNook and support the reading and/or math education of students behind grade level? (please write a brief, three to five-sentence answer)

• What assets and lived experiences do you bring that will help you connect with students from different educational, cultural, racial, economic, and geographic backgrounds? (please write a brief, three to five-sentence answer)

• What grade levels do you have experience teaching or tutoring?

• What grade levels are you interested in tutoring?

• Please list any additional languages in which you are fluent.

• How many hours per week do you want to tutor for BookNook?

• What times of day are you generally available to tutor?

After the online application is complete, someone then reviews your responses against the minimum requirements for a Tutor, and you hear from them within five business days of sending your application.

Booknook conducts all virtual tutor interviews through Spark Hire, a one-way video interview platform. They prefer using this instead of typical one-on-one video interviews to allow you to prepare by having time to think about questions, interview your schedule, and showcase your skills through a brief teaching demonstration.

After your Spark Hire video interview is submitted, they then review your interview and provide notification of the hiring decision within five business days.
