What is the hiring process at Geico?

By Zippia Team - Jul. 8, 2022

The hiring process at Geico is arduous and has many steps that include tests, interviews, and role play. It can take up to several months to be hired by Geico.

You apply for a job at Geico on the company's website or through a third-party job website.

On their website you find three options for employment:

  • Customer Service, Inside Sales, and Claims

  • Current Students and College Graduates

  • Corporate and Information Technology

After applying, a recruiter reaches out to you to do an initial phone screening. You are then asked to take a personality assessment test.

If you complete the test with a good score, Geico then schedules your first interview. This is a phone interview and lasts approximately 10 to 15 minutes. The recruiter states the training schedule, hours during transition, and discusses the job role and pay.

They also ask, how many times would your most recent employer state that you had unplanned absences in the last 6 months? Attendance, dependability, and stable work history are extremely important to Geico.

If you pass this stage, you are invited to go to a Geico location for more testing. This consists of exams involving multi-tasking and typing.

In the test you are given a fake medical insurance company to perform tasks for. You are given a few minutes to read instructions and learn the system. When an inquiry enters your queue you have one minute to start data entry and submit each inquiry.

Inquiries are claims, service, and sales. You have to choose the correct tab based on the inquiry type. You listen to a voice recording or read an email to retrieve the data needed to submit and complete a customer's inquiry.

Typing test is based on accuracy and 25 WPM is required.

Upon successfully completing testing, you may be asked to stay and complete additional steps of the selection process which may take up to a few hours.

The next step is a behavioral interview with the Geico Human Resources Department.

After this, you enter the role play phase. You are given a case study (Warranty Protection company) and a timer. You have 20 minutes to study before an HR specialist calls you and pretends to be a customer.

They call you three separate times, each time pretending to be a different customer. It's important to highlight and know the company's policy and procedures. Have a greeting, be polite, empathize, verify the phone number and upsell. Also, you must thank the caller for being a valued customer.

Here are some questions to expect in your interviews for Geico:

  • What makes good service at Geico?

  • Describe your approach to learning new technology.

  • Tell me about a challenging situation where you used innovation to solve it.

Geico conducts both a drug test and background check after they make you a job offer.

Once you start working for Geico you may enter a training period, depending on your skill level and knowledge. This is decided by the manager of your department.

The hiring process at Geico can take anywhere from several weeks to months to complete.
