This question is about Goldman Sachs and Goldman Sachs jobs.
The hiring process at Goldman Sachs varies by position and usually takes several weeks from start to finish due to the drug testing and background checks that are required.
There are 3 basic steps to the hiring process at Goldman Sachs:
Application: Prospective employees are encouraged to explore the Goldman Sachs careers webpage and get information on Goldman Sachs's business, culture, and available jobs.
You are also encouraged to review the "Meet our People" section on the Careers page to get to know current employees and what life is really like working for Goldman Sachs.
Once an opportunity of interest has been identified, prospects are encouraged to apply via Goldman Sachs' career page. You will be prompted to create an online profile via Oracle if you don't already have one. Once you have signed up, you will be able to submit your application.
Keep in mind that a cover letter or statement of intent is very important to Goldman Sachs (even more important than your resume), so take your time creating this piece.
After you have submitted your application, you will be able to update your profile, apply to jobs, and monitor your application status using the online portal.
There may be pre-screening text messages or assessments that will be sent to you or you will be contacted by a member of the internal recruitment team regarding next steps.
Please note that a full COVID-19 vaccination may be a condition of employment depending on the role and location of the job. If you have concerns, please discuss this with a member of the internal recruitment team.
Interview: After you submit your application, it will be reviewed by a member of the internal recruitment team. If your skills seem to be a match for the role, you will be contacted to set up a HireVue interview.
The HireVue interview is a digital interview system where candidates will film themselves answering a set of predetermined interview questions. You can expect 5 to 6 questions ranging from competency and behavior (80%) to questions specific to the division you have applied for (20%).
Sample questions include:
"Talk me through a time when you demonstrated leadership."
"What's the hardest problem you have ever encountered?"
"Why and when did you become interested in finance?"
You will get 30 seconds to prepare each answer and 3 minutes to deliver your answer. You will not have a second chance to re-record. The system will take your answers into account as well as things like body language, speech patterns, and blinking.
Engineering candidates can also expect to be given a HackerRank assessment. This is a coding-based technical skills assessment that will require either a math or programming assessment. The test is timed, so familiarize yourself with the platform beforehand by taking a sample test.
If you get past the HireVue interview and required assessments, you will be brought in for onsite interviews. These will consist of 3 interviews each 30 minutes in duration. It will start with a one-on-one interview and transition into a panel or group interview.
You can expect the questions to be highly technical and include brain teasers. You will also be expected to be up-to-date on current events and industry trends.
Sample questions include:
"Tell me about a headline in the Wall Street Journal recently that impacts Goldman Sachs."
"How many square feet of pizza are eaten in the US each year?"
"What makes Goldman Sachs different from our competitors?"
Offer and Onboarding: If you are selected for the role, a member of the internal recruitment team will contact you to review the offer letter details, benefits, and more information on your new career at Goldman Sachs. If you are not selected, you will receive communication from a member of the Goldman Sachs team.
Once you have accepted an offer, you will be asked to complete forms and start the pre-onboarding process. You will also be required to submit a drug test and background check. The internal recruitment team member will provide you with more detailed information on how to complete these steps.
Goldman Sachs outlines their tips for successfully going through the hiring process:
Be prepared to show your knowledge of current events and industry trends. Regularly and thoroughly read finance trade journals.
Your interviewers are trained to ask follow-up questions and they likely have read the same articles as you in depth. Making surface-level observations or referencing an article that you did not read thoroughly can (and will) backfire.
Expect both technical and behavioral questions. Goldman Sachs is known for their hardcore interview process, so do not take this lightly.
Expect to interview multiple times.
