What is the hiring process at Meta?

The hiring process at Meta is a multifaceted process that consists of several stages of interviews and assessment tests. The number of steps and nature of the questions will depend on the position. The entire hiring process at Meta can last between one to six months.

Once you submit your resume online, it can take upwards of a month to be reviewed. If the company is interested, a recruiter from Meta will reach out to you. The next stage is the phone screening (one to two rounds), followed by interviews (four to five rounds).

There are usually two rounds of phone screening at Meta: the recruiter phone screening (or the pre-screen) and the technical phone screening. The initial phone screening lasts about 20 minutes and involves mostly behavioral questions, with the aim of ascertaining your background, and what qualities you may possess that make you fit for the job.

If you are applying for a technical position, the recruiter will then match you with a Meta engineer or programmer to conduct the technical screening. This lasts about 45 minutes; you answer questions about your work experience, and complete coding assessments (e.g. data structures, algorithms) on a simple online code editor (e.g. CoderPad).

Once you've passed the phone screenings, you'll move on to the on-site interviews. In a typical on-site interview, you will be interviewed by four to five different staff for 45 mins each. Two things are assessed in these interviews: your fit for the role, and your fit for the process, teamwork, and culture of the company.

For technical roles, there are generally two types of interviews you should be aware of: Coding on-site interviews and System Design on-site interviews. For each type, expect two or more interviews.

Coding on-site interviews involve whiteboarding solutions to slightly harder data structures and/or algorithmic problems. System Design Onsite interviews involve developing high-level design architectures for real-life products.

The less formally experienced you are, in terms of your credentials or prior work, the more on-site interview rounds and assessments you likely face.

For both technical and non-technical roles, you'll definitely get teamwork, process, and culture fit interviews. The fit interview will touch on many topics, ranging from agile methodology or workflow, teamwork and collaboration, and conflict resolution.

Meta interview questions consist of three main types: fit questions, technical questions, and brain-teaser questions. Fit questions are role-dependent; technical questions are strictly limited to technical interviews. Brain-teaser questions may appear in all interviews, regardless of role.
