What is the hiring process at United States Postal Service?

The search function on eCareeers allows you to enter detailed search criteria and produces refined results. Use this to search for open positions. Once you have found the perfect job for you, it is time to create a profile and apply.

A Candidate profile has serval advantages, including a place to house your general information and allowing you to create a unique username and password that you can log into from any computer anytime. While you can search for jobs without creating a profile, you do need an account in order to apply.

The next step is to complete your profile with your information. The profile should supply much of the information for your application and can be reused across separate positions for which you apply. You can also customize sections of your profile in order to match the specific position that you are applying to.

Once you submit an application, look for an email acknowledging receipt. Overall, during this process, we advise you to monitor your email closely for all communications.

If you do not see it, it may have gone to your "spam" folder. You may always check your application status by clicking the "My Applications" link within the "Job Opportunities" section of your Candidate profile.

Depending on the position you apply for, you may be required to take a non-proctored assessment, a proctored assessment, or both. If either is required, look out for an email from the testing vendor with instructions on how to complete the assessment.

• Non-proctored assessment: You have a total of three days (72 hours) to complete once you are sent the link.

• Proctored assessment: you are given a specific day and time to complete the test. You may cancel or reschedule up to 24 hours before your scheduled appointment.

In some cases, if you pass the assessment, depending on the position, you may be offered a job straight away after being asked to interview. More typically, you are required to do one on-site interview, and sometimes they opt for a video chat instead. The interview is one-on-one with the hiring manager and lasts between 39 to 45 minutes.
