What should a health coach put on a resume?
A health coach should put the skills and achievements that highlight their health knowledge, passions to help others, as well as soft skills such as interpersonal skills and communication on a resume. The profile (from the profile summary to work experience to skills section) should showcase to the hiring manager why you would make an excellent candidate.
There are some steps you can take before you get started to help improve your chances of landing the first interview. First, when deciding on what skills and accomplishments to focus on, use the job description as your guide. Try to provide real-world examples that demonstrate these skills and provide real numbers to back it up.
The first place to really wow the hiring manager is by writing a strong profile summary. A profile summary is a short, two to four-sentence "summary" of what qualifies you to be a health coach.
The profile summary should include information about the type of health coach you are, your years of experience, and one to two top skills and achievements.
For example, "Certified health coach with a holistic approach and over five years of experience. Accomplished 97% of long-term goals and 100% of their short-term objectives with 68 clients, all of who reported a 100% satisfaction rate with my coaching services."
In the work experience section, begin each entry with your job title, then add the company name underneath that, the dates worked, and three to six of your top achievements or responsibilities in bullet points.
When possible, focus on achievements over responsibility. For example, "Initiated, planned, and conducted six group workshops for clients, covering holistic wellness management, motivational techniques, sleep, and cultivation of healthy habits."
