To become a teacher, you need to major in education. Most employers expect continued education into master's and beyond, but you can get your career started with a bachelor's degree.

To become a teacher you must at least obtain a bachelor's degree in education from an accredited program. You can focus on areas such as early childhood and special education as well. You could also specialize in science, history, or art. Candidates will often minor in one of these areas.

If you have a bachelor's degree, but it's not in education, you can apply for master's in education programs and still become a teacher. There are several programs that exist for this opportunity, especially in the special education field. To teach at the high school level you are typically required to already have a master's degree, or at least be working on it.
