What to wear to a teenage job interview

By Zippia Team - Sep. 7, 2022

You should wear business casual and sometimes slightly more casual dress to a teenage job interview.

If you are a teen, you most likely aren't applying for jobs in which a suit, pants suit, or fancy dress is appropriate for the interview process.

Do some research on the business or company you are seeking to work for to get some ideas for what to wear. If you can go into one of their places of business, do so and observe what the employees are wearing, even if it is a company uniform, you may still get a good sense of what is appropriate.

Keep your outfit simple and tasteful.

For teenage boys, khakis, dress pants, or in some cases, dark jeans are acceptable for bottoms. With a button-up or polo shirt for a top. For shoes, brown or black casual/dress shoes are a good option. Open-toed shoes are usually not a good idea.

For teenage girls, dress pants or a skirt with a simple blouse and casual or dress shoes is a good ensemble. Open-toed shoes may be okay if they are on the dressier side.

If you are interviewing at a clothing store, it is probably a good idea to either wear that brand of clothes or the type of clothes they sell. However, it is still important to look presentable, so don't wear anything that might be deemed inappropriate.
