What type of job is an investigator?

An investigator is a job type typically in law enforcement and criminal justice type of job. Many investigators usually work for federal and local agencies to collect evidence, interview witnesses and even arrest suspects if needed.

Some examples of responsibilities include collaborating with federal agencies such as the FBI and IRS, planning and supervising efforts to enhance the conduct of law enforcement, and writing detailed case reports to submit to the appropriate agencies. Furthermore, depending on what kind of investigator you are, you may have more specific tasks. For example, a fraud investigator investigates and identifies fraudulent activities within a company and its clients. Their duties generally revolve around devising strategies and systems to detect inconsistencies, monitoring suspicious transactions and accounts, and conducting reviews to identify any security lapses or vulnerabilities in the procedures.
