When do college students need to do an internship?
Most college students should complete an internship during their junior or senior year. However, some elect to complete an internship during their freshman or sophomore year as well.
Freshman and sophomore year students who choose to do internships do so mostly to explore career options. While internships for juniors and seniors are seen more as resume-building experiences in a particular profession or industry.
Even if you have already completed an internship during your freshman or sophomore year of college, you should seek to complete another during the summer before your senior year, or the summer or season after you graduate college. The reason for doing this is to increase the chances of the internship leading to a job offer.
If a company knows you are about to graduate or are close to graduation and they valued you as an intern, they very well may offer you an entry-level position at the company. This is not always the case, but many companies do seek to fill entry-level roles with previous interns.
