AstraZeneca is a British-Swedish multinational pharmaceutical company that was founded in 1999 by the merger of the Swedish Astra AB and the British Zeneca Group, hence the company's name. After that merger, AstraZeneca became one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world.

Since its founding, AstraZeneca has made many corporate acquisitions, including Cambridge Antibody Technology, MedImmune, and Definiens. AstraZeneca's research and development is concentrated in three locations: Cambridge, England; Gothenburg, Sweden; and Gaithersburg, Maryland, in the United States.

The company has a wide variety of medical products for major diseases including ones for oncology, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, infection, neuroscience, respiratory, and inflammation. Most recently, it has been involved in the creation of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.
