Who owns Bayer?
Bayer AG owns Bayer. The German multinational pharmaceutical and life sciences company is one of the largest in the world. Bayer focuses on pharmaceuticals, consumer healthcare products, agricultural chemicals, seeds, and biotechnology products.
Bayer was founded in 1863 Barmen, Germany as a partnership between dye salesman Friedrich Bayer and dye maker Friedrich Weskott. In 1889 Bayer developed the compound acetylsalicylic acid under the trademarked name Aspirin. Other commonly known products initially commercialized by the company include heroin, phenobarbital, polyurethanes, and polycarbonates.
In 1925 Bayer merged with five other German companies to form the company of IG Farben. This merger created the world's largest chemical and pharmaceutical company at that time. After World War II the company was split into constituent companies because of its involvement with the Nazi regime. In 1951, Bayer was incorporated as Farbenfabriken Bayer AG.
Today, the company has extremely high annual revenues, like in 2021 when Bayer made $44.081 billion in profits. Bayer services the entire globe with a workforce of around 100,000 employees.
