Who owns Nokia?

By Zippia Team - Aug. 22, 2022

HMD Global Oy owns Nokia. Nokia is a Finnish multinational telecommunication, information technology, and electronics company established in 1865.

Nokia formed a partnership with Microsoft, and in 2014 Microsoft bought the Finnish company's mobile phone business and created Microsoft Mobile. After this sale, Nokia began to focus more on telecommunications infrastructure and experimented with virtual reality and digital health.

The Nokia brand returned to the mobile and smartphone marketplace through a licensing agreement with HMD Global Oy.

In 2016, Microsoft sold the Nokia smartphone business for $350 million to a subsidiary of Hon Hai/Foxconn Technology Group and HMD Global, led by former Nokia and Microsoft mobile executives. HMD has an exclusive license to use the Nokia brand on mobile phones and tablets.

In 2021, the company saw annual revenue of 22.202 billion Euros with a workforce of 87,927 employees.
