The Corporation for Public Broadcasting owns PBS. PBS was established in 1969 by Harfortford N. Gunn Jr. (president of WGBH), John Macy (president of CPB), and James Day (the last president of National Education Television).
Operations began in 1970 when PBS took over many functions of its predecessor National Education Television.
