Who owns PepsiCo?

By Zippia Team - Aug. 22, 2022

The Vanguard Group, Inc. owns PepsiCo holding 8.8% of the company's outstanding shares. The soda Pepsi was created by Caleb Bradham, a pharmacist, and businessman, in 1898, and in 1902, Bradham registered a patent for his recipe and founded the Pepsi-Cola Company.

In 1923, the company's trademark and the recipe were bought by Craven Holding Corporation. Following this, in 1931, Roy Megargel and Charles Guth purchased the Pepsi trademark and business from Craven Holding Company.

Loft Inc. then absorbed the company after a landmark lawsuit was won in 1941 in which the shareholders of Loft sued Guth for his 91% stake in the Pepsi-Cola Company.

PepsiCo expanded its business tremendously over the years and acquired many other companies along the way, including the two largest bottlers of its products, Pepsi Bottling Group and PepsiAmericas, for $ 7 billion in 2010.

In 2020, PepsiCo had annual revenue of $70.37 billion.
