Who owns Yahoo?

Yahoo grew rapidly throughout the 1990s. Yahoo became a public company via an initial public offering in April 1996, and its stock price rose 600% within two years. However, usage declined in the late 2000s as it lost market share to Facebook and Google.

In 2008, Microsoft made an unsolicited bid to acquire Yahoo for $44.6 billion. Yahoo rejected the bid, claiming that it "substantially undervalued" the company and was not in the interest of its shareholders. Although Microsoft increased its bid to $47 billion, Yahoo insisted on another 10%+ increase to the offer, and Microsoft canceled the offer.

Carol Bartz, who had no previous experience in Internet advertising, replaced Yang as CEO in 2009, only to be fired in 2011 after failing to meet targets and replaced by Tim Morse, who was named the Interim CEO of the company. In 2012, Scott Thompson was named CEO and, after some controversy, was fired that same year and replaced by Marissa Mayer.

The company continues to replace its CEO every year. The current CEO of yahoo, since 2021, is Jim Lanzone. More recently, some other major institutional shareholders include Goldman Sach Group Inc (4.2% of the total shares), Alibaba Group Holding Ltd 93.9% of the total shares), and Focus International Ltd (2.6% of the total shares).

Yahoo's annual revenue is around 7.4 million per year, and they have 8,600 employees.
