Why does the NFL not pay taxes?

By Kate Swindlehurst - Apr. 2, 2023

The NFL does pay taxes. However, this was not always the case. From 1942 to 2014, the National Football League organization had tax-exempt status. It is important to distinguish between the league and individual times, as the 32 individual teams did pay taxes on their income during these 72 years.

The change of the NFL offices stopping their tax exemption status occurred after many different criticisms from many people. They also needed to complete additional paperwork that made it not worthwhile to continue with their tax-exempt status.
