This is a position for a four year Electrical Maintainer Apprenticeship, with the potential to continue employment as an Electrical Maintainer after the apprenticeship is completed. This entry level maintenance position will be assigned to one of our three Steel facilities in Stark County, Ohio (Gambrinus, Harrison or Faircrest Steel plants). Employees in this position are responsible for performing a variety of maintenance and educational tasks including, but not limited to, class room study, on the job training, and assisting journeymen in completion of electrical maintenance tasks. Employees in this position are responsible for but not limited to the following: Receive and execute work assignment, using instructions, drawings and sketches for diagnosis, repair, of steel mill related equipment. Utilizing preventative/predictive maintenance techniques to maintain equipment reliability and eliminate equipment break downs. Work in the field or shop area as required Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and Pneumatic systems Utilize PLC's in the performance of troubleshooting activities. Troubleshoots and repairs electrical and control logic systems. Replaces and align electric motors and brakes. Perform preventative & predictive maintenance Work on High voltage switchgear and transformers Troubleshoots, dismantles, cleans, inspects, rebuilds, repairs, replaces, installs, assembles, adjust, aligns, and lubricates electrical devices. Utilizes the computerized maintenance management system as necessary to aid in performing predictive, preventive and repair tasks. Ability to cut, burn, weld and braze metals Operates overhead electric crane and mobile equipment to lift and transport materials Operates heavy mobile equipment Performs miscellaneous work such as filling out standard forms, lubricating equipment, rigging parts & equipment for movement or lifting, and keeping tools, equipment and work area clean and orderly. Essential Functions: 50% Complete maintenance requests as scheduled through our work order system. Work Orders consist of a wide variety of duties in installation, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of electrical systems, equipment and fixtures. Complete time and material usage reports. Assist in maintaining material stock for related work. Review of completed work and cleanup of work areas upon completion. 15% Interpret and update panel schedules and system drawings. Installs, tests and troubleshoots circuits and equipment using appropriate tools and instruments. Ensure all work meets current National Electric Code. 15% Maintain and repair campus distribution substations. Primary distribution is 23kV, Secondary 4160V. Maintain and test all dry and oil filled transformers. Locate and identify underground electric for OUPS. Locate underground faults and make repairs. 10% Assist with testing, inspection and repair of campus fire alarm systems. 5% Plan layouts and installation of conduit for campus surveillance and other low voltage electronic systems. Assist project managers and contractors with project electrical needs. 5% Respond to electrical emergencies or outages during off shift time periods. Provide coverage and electrical support for campus and sporting events. Additional Position Information: Education: Requires high school diploma or GED and successful completion of a designated, state recognized electrical apprenticeship program. Licenses/Certifications/Requirements: Valid Ohio Driver's License and a Journeyman's Certification. Experience: Requires a minimum of 6 years performing work of a Commercial or Industrial Electrician. Minimum 1 year experience as a Journeyman Electrician. Minimum 1 year installing and troubleshooting fire alarm systems required (Simplex 4100ES-Edwards EST-3 systems preferred). Ability to operate and use standard powered electrical equipment required. Ability to perform mathematics associated with trade applications (fractions, ratios, percentages) required. Ability to read, write and accurately follow oral, written and graphic instructions required. Prior experience in higher education or large multi-building facility maintenance environment preferred. Prior supervisory experience also preferred. Compensation: This is a Union position with a salary grade of 9. Salary Determination is subject to the SBU/CWA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
