    Description:IBEW Hourly represented employees who currently work at the main (Sunnyvale/Palo Alto) unit, Santa Cruz, VAFB or Eastern Range facilities must apply to open requisitions on Brass Ring to be considered for the position. This occupation requires repair, installation and maintenance of plant electrical systems. Determines routing, location and methods of installing wires, conduits, electrical equipment, fixtures and accessories, following trade practice, blueprints, wiring diagrams and applicable state, municipal and underwriters' specifications, codes and ordinances. Determine need for repair or replacement, best and safest method of restoring interrupted service. Computes wire gauge, power and load limit requirements when required. Performs such construction and maintenance operations as installing and maintaining large motors, transformer banks, welding generators, panels and switchboards. Does repair and installation work such as splicing, tapping and insulating high voltage wire, and troubleshoots on hot circuits. Maintains electrical systems and accessories, on plant machines and equipment; or Determines by inspection the electrical repair, replacement and maintenance operations necessary to maintain in efficient operation condition all types of overhead crane and hoist equipment. Maintains electrical accessories, control devices, wiring, and other components of the system. Make emergency repairs as required; or Rebuilds and rewinds motors, generators, transformers, and similar electrical equipment. Diagnoses trouble and determines method of repair and replacement units required. Replaces parts and units as is necessary, reassembles equipment and tests for conformance to specifications . Performs mechanical operations necessary to the dismantling, disassembly, repair and installation of electrical units. Must possess license of certificate as required by law. Performs satisfactorily any function of the Maintenance Electrician when so assigned. TYPICAL MATERIALS, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED: Materials worked on: Electric motors, generators, transformers, switchboards, controls and other electrical equipment. Materials worked with: Wire, tape, solder, conduit, insulators, fuses, switches, relays, screws, bolts, lubricants, insulating varnishes, lighting fixtures, and other electrical repair and replacement parts and supplies. Tools used: Electricians' hand tools, soldering irons, wire strippers, blow torch, chain tongs, wire pullers, hickeys; wire gauges, measuring instruments as ammeters, voltmeters, watt meters, ohmmeters, wheat stone bridges, program logic controls. Equipment used: Power tools such as drill presses, hack saws, pipe benders and threaders; soldering furnaces, coil winding machines; block and tackle, scaffolding, ladders, safety belts. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance. U.S. Citizenship is required. Basic Qualifications: To use electricians' hand tools and electrical testing and measuring instruments. To use electrical shop power tools, equipment and accessories. To use electrical handbooks and charts. To apply a complete knowledge of electrical maintenance and shop theory, practice, procedure, codes and ordinances. About the Role: U.S. Pipe is seeking a 1st shift Electrician to join our team. This position is responsible for inspecting, repairing, installing, and wiring all electrical apparatus, devices, and circuits, of any voltage in the plant or assigned area. Specific Responsibilities: · Receives wiring diagrams, specifications and instructions covering the scheduled and emergency repair, installation, and inspection work to be done. · Analyzes all types of drawings and wiring diagrams to locate and install circuits and equipment to determine material or replacement needs and to select a logical approach to “trouble shooting” and repair problems. · Plans details of working procedure to affect the most logical approach to the job. · Considers all safety precautions and the proper isolation of circuits to cause a minimum of interference to operations. · Determines necessary tools and equipment. · Plans and performs work requiring a thorough working knowledge of electrical principles, wiring specification codes, properties of various materials, and principles of operation and application of equipment. · Locates source of trouble of any type of electrical equipment by tracing and testing circuits and inspecting for faulty operation. · Dismantles, inspects, repairs, adjusts, or replaces faulty parts, wiring on motors, generators, motors, power distribution and control panels, circuit breakers, rectifiers, electronic devices, etc. · Reassembles, tests, and adjusts equipment for safe and proper operation. Performs work on “hot” lines as required. · Replaces coils, resistors, rheostats, relays, etc. · Adjusts contactors, relays, bus rigging, etc. · Reconnects terminal leads, panels boards and distribution feeders. · In emergencies, shunts out defective coils in order to get equipment back in operation. · Changes DC motor characteristics by shunting DC coils, etc. · Installs conduit, fittings, switches, controls, and fixtures, and wires and connects all types of electrical equipment as required for new installations or replacement of facilities. · Makes all required splices and connector joints. Adjusts all new equipment for proper operating characteristics. · Performs all work in a safe and efficient manner and keeps work area in a clean and orderly condition. · Clean up all work areas · Performs any other duty supervisor assigns. Qualifications: · Must have a minimum of 3 years of electrical work experience or successful completion of an electronics curriculum from an accredited program. · Must have the ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams and drawings. · Must have experience trouble shooting and repairing electrical problems. · Computer experience is desired, previous PLC experience required. · Must be able to wire motor control circuits and push-button circuits.
