The Apprentice Electrician supports the Journeyman Electrician in performing a variety of electrical tasks across commercial and industrial job sites. This role is designed to provide hands-on learning opportunities while ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to code. Education and Experience Qualifications High School Diploma or GED Valid Drivers License required and must meet eligibility requirements to be covered under the companys vehicle insurance policy. Enrolled in a WA/OR approved apprenticeship program and current Washington or Oregon State Electrical Apprentice License. Interest in working in an electrical industrial environment or previous work exp. strongly preferred. Current First Aid certification preferred. May be required to meet facial hair standards in accordance with OSHAs Respiratory Protection standard (29 CFR 1910.34). Duties and Responsibilities The Apprentice Electrician possessing the education and experience listed above performs the following: Safely operate and maintain company vehicles as required for job duties, ensuring compliance with all traffic laws and company policies. Learn from the Journeyman Electrician and completes all assigned duties. Assists with installation of electrical systems per blueprints, construction drawings, and NEC codes in commercial buildings and industrial facilities. Pull wire, install conduit, lighting systems, panels, and other electrical components according to project specs and under the direction of a Journeyman. Identify, analyze, troubleshoot, and assist with repairs of equipment and electrical faults. Learn and apply safe work practices, following site-specific and company safety requirements, including lockout/tagout, PPE protocols, etc. Travels out to various public and private spaces to assist the Journeyman Electrician, maintaining job site organization, cleanliness, and tool accountability Read and interprets blueprints schematics, and site plans under guidance. Record update work logs, clients' accounts, and handles other administrative duties. Communicates with clients in a professional, courteous manner at all times. Coordinate tasks and work alongside other trades and subcontractors in a fast-paced, schedule-driven environment Attend safety briefings and site meetings as required. Respond to direction from Foreman, Journeymen, and Project Managers. Maintains punctual, regular, and predictable attendance. Works collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation. GFT is seeking a Field Electrician - Power System Assessments to join our Building and Places Team in Fife, WA! What you'll be challenged to do: In this role, you'll support electrical system design and condition assessment projects for a wide range of facilities, including public, commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings. You'll play a critical part in documenting existing system conditions, supporting electrical system studies, and ensuring that our design teams have the information needed to engineer safe and efficient power distribution systems. In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following: Perform field inspection of energized electrical equipment including panelboards, disconnects, MCCs, vaults, and transformers, generally operating at low voltage (≤480V), with occasional work involving medium-voltage systems (5 kV-15 kV) such as transformers, junction vaults, switches, and switchgear. Install and remove load monitoring equipment (current transformers, data loggers, etc.) for NEC 220.87 load studies. Collect and record electrical system data for coordination, short-circuit, and arc-flash studies. Prepare field reports, photos, and one-line markups documenting existing conditions. Review electrical drawings for constructability and assist with QA/QC. Follow NFPA 70E and LOTO safety procedures at all times. Report directly to the Project Manager and collaborate with electrical engineers and designers. Travel within the region and occasionally to out-of-state projects. What you will bring to our firm: Active Washington State EL01 Journeyman Electrician License Minimum 5+ years of experience as a journey-level electrician Experience with public, commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities preferred Strong understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and NFPA 70E safety practices Ability to interpret electrical plans, one-lines, and panel schedules Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report preparation Valid driver's license and clean driving record Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) Compensation: The salary range for this role is $90,000 - $120,000.
