Position Overview

Key Responsibilities
Install, assemble, and commission solar panels, inverters, battery systems, and related electrical equipment.
Perform AC and DC wiring, grounding, interconnection, and integration into building or grid electrical systems.
Troubleshoot system malfunctions, perform repairs, and complete preventive maintenance (inspections, inverter testing, performance checks).
Ensure all work is performed in accordance with NEC, local codes, and strict safety procedures (including Lock-Out-Tag-Out).
Maintain and enforce safety and compliance standards (OSHA, fall protection, PPE).
Conduct system testing and commissioning, such as IV curve tracing and performance validation.
Read, interpret, and complete electrical diagrams, schematics, and service documentation.
Use computer systems such as CMMS or Salesforce for reporting and documentation.
Assist in training and guiding junior technicians or apprentices.
Communicate effectively with customers, project managers, and team members regarding project status and system functionality.
Safely work on rooftops, ladders, elevated surfaces, and outdoor environments.
Qualifications
Preferred: 3+ years of experience in electrical work or related fields.
Valid state or local Journeyman Electrician License preferred (for Electrician roles).
1-2 years of experience in solar PV installation, service, or maintenance is highly beneficial.
High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational electrical training is a plus.
Strong working knowledge of electrical systems, components, and diagnostic tools.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and manufacturer specifications.
Experience with hand tools, power tools, and electrical testing equipment.
Familiarity with DAS/SCADA systems is a plus.
Ability to work at heights and in various weather conditions; able to lift 50-80 lbs.

About the role
Position Description: We seek a dedicated individual who will safely work as part of a small team to maintain all phases of electrical switch gear, both high and low voltage, as well as all electrical equipment throughout the plant. Must be able to communicate well with groups or individuals to solve problems. Must be a self-starter and able to prioritize work based on plant production requirements. Work independently with minimal assistance and understands safety procedures of electrical equipment.
This individual will participate in daily preventative, scheduled, and corrective maintenance activities in a safe, effective, and timely manner related to an electrical generation facility. The Electrician will also perform maintenance work related to the boilers and its associated electrical equipment. This includes preventative, corrective, emergency, warranty service, etc. throughout the facility. The Electrician will identify repairs and documents electrical equipment malfunctions and installs and tests new equipment in accordance with safety standards.
Other functions will include preventative maintenance as well as troubleshooting and repair of circuit breakers, motor control centers, generator, transformers, electrical metering, and protective relays and devices. The Electrician will also be capable of testing and troubleshooting AC and DC electrical circuits, motors, circuit breakers, protective relays and other related devices.
Perform preventative maintenance on all plant electrical equipment is essential as well as writing comprehensive logs, reports, and procedure manuals. Conducts preventative analysis of electrical systems and equipment updates. Reading, interpreting, and utilizing equipment manuals for technical clarification and requisitioning parts and material is required. The employee will be required to use computer-based programming to access work orders, for both corrective and preventative tasks.
Position Requirements: To be considered for this position the individual must have at least five years' experience as maintenance electrician in a power plant other industrial type setting, along with a High School/GED diploma and a valid Driver's License. Must have electrical journeyman's license or strong apprentice training experience.
Must have knowledge of:
Crane electrical controls
Commercial and industrial electrical equipment
MCC Controls
P&IDs, schematics and equipment manual for electrical equipment installation, trouble shooting, and programming
Must be capable of working at high elevations
Must be able to spec. out , price and install all sized conduit, junction boxes, wire, etc. for both new projects and for the replacement of existing equipment
Computing skills such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
Must be willing to be trained to operate equipment with telescoping boom and scissor lift, and well as other mobile equipment.
Must be able to work overtime on a rotating on-call schedule to support plant operations as needed including nights, weekends, and holidays. May be required to work extensive overtime hours during planned and un-planned maintenance.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee periodically enters and inspects various plant areas with rotating machinery; is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; precarious places; confined spaces; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock and vibration.
Must be able to work in all locations within the plant, under extremes of hot and cold, and in areas of dust, noise and wet conditions. Must be able to climb a ladder to access equipment and work from heights using fall protection, lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs. and other manual labor to including pushing, pulling, sweeping and shoveling.

Position Detail:

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to operation of the equipment, including generators, motors, gates for river management, construction of new project and/or equipment life extension projects, installation, maintenance, repair, and overhaul of all equipment used at the Operations South facilities and its related waterways, appurtenances, structures, and other facilities.

The compensation for this position falls between $50.91 and 55.93 per hour. The final compensation offered will depend on several factors that may include, but are not limited to, the type and years of relevant experience, industry-specific experience, relevant education/certifications and geographic location.

Key Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:
Read and understand engineering prints, electrical and mechanical drawings and schematics.
Use industry standards, procedures and best practices to achieve results.
Routinely inspect plant equipment, calibration of devices, coordination, planning and set-up of work activities and facilities maintenance support.
Operate the generating units (start, stop and load adjustment) in addition to performing switching/tagging and energy isolation responsibilities as required and in accordance with Company procedures and policies.
Perform troubleshooting, analysis, and calibration of instrument and control devices, inspection and testing of electrical equipment and protective relays, maintenance and work on station equipment, including generators, motors, transformers, circuit breakers, control switches, batteries, rheostats, sequence control systems, PLC's, hydraulic governors and other associated equipment typically found in a power generating station or other industrial facilities.
Perform and/or assist the entire Operations South Team with implementing measures during planned and unplanned situations to achieve successful operation.
Perform rigging needed to lift, move, and position heavy equipment.
Communicate technical information and equipment status updates in a clear and concise manner.
Make recommendations on potential solutions to address issues when applicable.
Collaborate with personnel from other departments such as Operations, Engineering, Mechanics, Safety to ensure efficient and safe operation and maintenance of the facilities.
Operate manual, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical tools.
Operate motorized equipment such as lift trucks, winch trucks, and overhead cranes.
Maintain operational records and maintenance history of station equipment.
Act as a team member with all FirstLight employees.
Must maintain all licenses required for position.
Responds to emergencies or unanticipated needs outside of normal working hours.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Complies with all FirstLight policies and procedures.
Job Qualifications / Skills
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
4+ years of experience as an electrician in a related or industrial setting.
Connecticut journeyperson electrical license or a transferable license from another state.
Experience with industrial or utility generating plant equipment such as pumps, control valves, instrumentation, controllers, and associated equipment.
General plant electrician experience including but not limited to MCC's, motor control circuitry, starters, fuses and heaters.
Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations.
Experience interpreting data, drawings, schematics, readings, and results of equipment checks.
A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.
Ability to work overtime and rotating shifts as well as vacation relief as applicable.
Ability to respond to plant emergencies/call-ins including days, nights, holidays and weekends as applicable.
Basic knowledge/skills to use a personal computer, calculator, etc.
Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
Highly organized self-starter with strong planning and multitasking capabilities.

Physical Requirements
Capable of frequently standing, walking, balancing, sitting, reaching, climbing (ladders, stairs, ramps, catwalks, stacks, etc.), bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, crawling, kneeling, grasping, pushing, pulling, lifting (up to 50 lbs.), feeling, talking and hearing for prolonged periods and performing repetitive motions.

Must be physically capable of entering and working in a confined space (crawl spaces, shafts, small, enclosed areas, pipes and the like) as required.
Must be physically capable of performing demanding work at various heights and in adverse conditions during operations, shutdowns, and in fire/emergency activities.
Must be physically capable of wearing protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to half and full-faced respirators, fall protection equipment, hard-hat, safety shoes, safety glasses, etc.;
Ability to pass a respirator physical and respirator fit test (if applicable)
Required to have eyesight corrected at 20/40 to accurately read and interpret items such as, but not limited to, instruments, gauges, and manuals.
