Overview
Under the general direction of the Assistant Director of Operations, the Part-Time Electrician performs journeyman-level electrical and lead worker duties supporting the installation, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and breakdown of show power, shore power, and temporary electrical distribution systems for the Ryan Center and Boss Ice Arena. This role primarily supports concerts, athletic events, exhibits, and other live venue activities. The position also assists with electrical projects, troubleshooting, and repairs as needed to ensure event readiness and safe facility operations. At times, this position may assist with general maintenance tasks such as basic plumbing, painting, carpentry, trades support, and groundskeeping. Work hours are scheduled based on event and venue needs and may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts. This is not a full-time facility maintenance position and does not carry primary responsibility for daily building systems.
This role will pay an hourly rate of $60.00

Responsibilities
Communicate clearly and timely with Operations and Facilities staff regarding work issues, priorities, and status updates.
Install, operate, monitor, and dismantle show power, shore power, and temporary electrical distribution systems for events and venue configurations.
Coordinate temporary power needs for event production, broadcast, vendors, and athletic operations.
Ensure all temporary and event-related electrical systems comply with applicable electrical codes, safety standards, and venue requirements.
Inspect, test, maintain, and repair event-related electrical cords, cables, connectors, and power distribution equipment.
Troubleshoot and resolve power issues during live events to minimize operational disruptions.
Provide on-site electrical support before, during, and after events.
Assist with electrical repairs or upgrades related to event readiness as required.
Support event setup and breakdown activities, including but not limited to electrical services.
Maintain required clearances around electrical panels, transformers, switchgear, and related infrastructure.
Train and support operations staff on electrical requirements and best practices for event operations.
Provide excellent customer service to internal departments, clients, promoters, vendors, and external partners.
Repair, install, replace, and test electrical circuits, fixtures, and equipment using appropriate tools and testing instruments.
Diagnose electrical defects, including short circuits, loose connections, damaged wiring, and worn components.
Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, specifications, and manufacturer documentation.
Safely operate maintenance and access equipment, including forklifts and scissor lifts.
Perform all duties in accordance with safety standards, facility goals, and energy conservation practices.
Perform additional duties as required to support venue and event operations.
Qualifications
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
Completion of a five-year electrical apprenticeship program.
Valid Journeyman Electrician license required; Master Electrician license highly desirable.
Demonstrated experience with temporary power, show power, or event-based electrical systems.
Experience with maintenance and repair of electrical power generating equipment and auxiliary systems preferred.

About the Venue
A state-of-the-art, multi-purpose facility, the Thomas M. Ryan Center, located on the University of Rhode Island campus in scenic South County, opened its doors in June 2002. Home to URI Men's and Women's Basketball programs, the Ryan Center also features the URI football teams' locker room, along with athletic department offices, training rooms, players' lounges and a souvenir store. The venue seats 8,000 for basketball, and over 6,300 for concerts, family shows, lectures and other community events.The Ryan Center was designed and built to meet all ADA specifications to accommodate our guests with disabilities. Located in Kingston, the Center draws on an audience of over 1.4 million people within a 40-mile radius.

Position Summary
The Industrial Electrician performs a wide range of basic duties in support of both building and machine electrical systems, as well as physical plant maintenance.
Measures of success:
Successfully completed projects according to authorized National Electrical Codes
Projects completed on time and to acceptable standards
Consistent response to maintenance calls
Timely completion of work orders
Updated work orders within the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Performs basic duties to, install, repair, and maintain all electronic and electrical equipment, motors, and controls for new and existing machinery.
Bends and installs conduit, pulls and terminates wires and replaces motor starters.
Performs a large variety of tests on all electrical systems. Balances loads and power factor.
Troubleshoots and identifies needs for basic repairs to automation equipment using manuals, schematics, Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programs, meters, and power and hand tools.
Overhauls relays, circuit breakers, electric power motors and motor bearings.
Replaces defective contactors, modules on electronic controls and equipment.
Assists in various aspects of electrical construction and maintenance.
Installs and services generating equipment, switchboards, motors, starters, lighting circuits, circuit breakers, AC and DC motor controls, and replaces or repairs wiring.
Replaces malfunctioning hoists and checks battery charges on forklifts.
Installs, tests and services computer cables as well as installs communication lines.
Researches and recommends new replacement parts for equipment.
Remains current with electrical code requirements.
Completes work orders and maintains the CMMS.
Follows all health and safety rules, regulations, and practices at all times, including Lockout/Tagout procedures.
Maintains a clean and neat working environment.
Performs other duties as required or directed.
Qualifications
Required:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Rhode Island Journeyperson Electrician License
OSHA 10 certified
4+ years of basic electrical experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
Basic level of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) knowledge, including ability to read PLC programs
Working knowledge of relays, controls, sensors and switches
Basic knowledge of both electrical and mechanical aspects of industrial equipment
Knowledge to operate volt-ohm meters, oscilloscopes, continuity testers, wire tracing equipment and other equipment utilized during the typical incidences of the electrician's duties
Up to date knowledge of current electrical codes
Knowledge of National Electrical Code
Familiar with HVAC systems
Ability to perform physical demanding tasks, such as climbing ladders and high range scissor lift
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs without assistance; use hoists and other necessary equipment for lifting as required
Ability to be self-motivated and work in both team and individual settings
Preferred:
Associate Degree in Electrical or Electronics Technology
Work Environment
This position works in both an office environment using computers and technology, as well as in a production plant where large equipment and noise are prevalent. Safety equipment and personal protective gear is required in these areas. Verbal and auditory capability are required.
This position reports into the site every day.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Electrician will participate in the installation or maintenance and inspection of electrical systems and associated processes.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Regular attendance at assigned location; may include A/Z office or other project site;
Prepares sketches showing location of wiring and equipment, or follows blueprints, insuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings and flooring;
Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles and installs electrical conduit, using such tools as hacksaw, pipe threader and conduit bender;
Oversees or participates in wire installation with conduit and cable trays;
Installs control and distribution apparatus, such as switches, relays and circuit-breaker panels, fastening in place with screws or bolts, using hand tools and power tools;
Connects power cables to equipment, such as motor, and installs grounding leads;
Test continuity of circuit to insure electrical compatibility and safety of components, using testing instruments, such as ohmmeter, battery and buzzer, and oscilloscope;
Observes functioning of installed equipment or system to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation or replacement;
Perform other routine duties as directed by workplace leader, electrical panels, and standby generation;
Avoid unsightly, hazardous and unreliable wiring, consistent with specifications and local electrical codes, redlining drawings, complete documentation with as found and as left conditions;
Must maintain strict adherence to safety rules and quality;
Participate in site housekeeping;
Interact with co-workers in an attentive courteous manner;
Additional duties as directed by management.
